**Bypassing Palm Pre Activation Before Unlocking**
Palm Pre & Pixi Unlock User Guide
Activation Required
Ignore this page if your Palm has an active profile (you can access the phones menus etc).
In order to unlock your palm pre, it must first be activated.
The best way to do this is the way Palm intended with a working SIM card with an active data plan.
You can activate your phone with the tool given on this page, please read through the entire page carefully

Once you have unlocked and have a sim with active data, use WebOS doctor immediately after to get a fresh
install.

Quick guide to bypassing activation.
You must have the java run time library installed to use the following (normally present on most PCs, if not
download from http://www.java.com/en/download/index.jsp )
1. Download the activation bypass tool from http://goo.gl/Uqw2o and save it to your PC (do not unzip
this file or open it if prompted)
2. Get your phone to run in ‘USB Mode’ (recovery mode)
a. Method 1:
i. Take out the battery
ii. Press and hold the phones `Volume Up` button
iii. Plug in the USB Cable (connected to your PC)
iv. Replace the phones battery, release the `Volume Up` button
v. If successful you will see the USB icon on the phones screen
b. If that fails then use the following method
i. Keep the phone with battery cover on and battery in
ii. Press and hold the phones `Volume Up` button
iii. Plug in the USB cable (connected to your PC)
iv. Release the `Volume Up` button.
v. If successful you will see the USB icon on the phones screen
c. The final method you can try
i. With the phone turned on
ii. Enter either *228 Option 1 or *22899
iii. You may need to reset the device
3. From the command line (in the location where you saved the bypass tool) enter java -jar
devicetool.jar
a. Open the folder you saved the bypass tool to
i. Vista, hold the shift key and right click anywhere in the folder and select ‘Open
Command Prompt Here’
ii. XP, go to START > RUN type CMD press Enter Key, then TYPE ‘CD ‘ followed by the
address of the folder you saved the bypass tool in for example ‘CD C:\bypass\’
b. Enter/type at the command prompt “java –jar devicetool.jar” press Enter key.
4. The Bypass tool will now detect your phone and run the bypass procedure.

Run the unlock client from “START > Multi Unlock Client > Unlock Client”, you will also need to enter your username
and password and click “save login data” and make sure “main Server” is selected under the settings tab, make sure
you click “Save Login Data”, please make sure if you copy and paste or enter User details manually that you do not
inadvertently put a space at the beginning or the end of the user name or the password, this will cause the message
“unable to get balance or counter zero”.
NOTE: Pix, pre & Pre2 require different credits; please insure your account has the required service active for the type
of phone you are trying to unlock.
1. On the phone enter “Diag Mode”
a. On your Palm Pre go to ‘Device Info’, write down the 12 digit serial number (please remember it is case
Sensitive)
b. Enter the serial number into the calculator “START > Multi Unlock Client > Pre Pass Through Keygen”
(exactly the same if you have a pixi ot a pre, the serial must be entered exactly as it appears on the screen)
c. Go to the phone app on your palm pre or pixi
d. Start typing #*8727277# and press DIAL as if trying to call this number
e. Enter the code from the ‘Pre Pass Through Keygen’ and click ‘validate’ (if requested)
f. In the window that appears, select “Configure USB pass-through”
g. Set DIAG for USB Port 1 (make sure all others are set to None, and ‘Use USBNet’ is set to disabled)
h. Connect your Phone to the PC using USB cable.
i. If/when prompted by the phone select “Just Charge”
2. You need to install drivers when the new hardware found message dialog appears on your PC
(see page4 for more info)
a. When asked if you would like windows to search for a driver, select “No not this time”, Then select
“Install from a list or specific location”, then click “Next”
b. Then select “Search for the best driver in these locations”, then check “Include the following location”
c. on the next screen click on “Browse”
d. Browse to “C:\Program Files\Multi Unlock Client\Palm Pre\Drivers” or “C:\Program Files\Multi
Unlock Client\Palm Pixi\Drivers” depending on the phone you are unlocking.
e. Click “Next” and the wizard will install the drivers
f. Once the drivers are installed, Unplug & replug phone, click “OK” on the unlock client dialog box.
3. Unplug & Replug Phone to USB cable.
4. Select Palm Tab, and replug phone.
5. Now to Unlock Your Phone
a. When the software tells you that “you may proceed”.
b. Click “Unlock” , the software will now unlock your phone
c. Where possible the blocked counters will be reset.

If when you restart your phone it still asks for a network unlock code, please use the code labeled ‘NetworkCode`
displayed in the software, if you have closed the software and no longer have the code, please see the FAQ and
troubleshooting section of this manual.
Now Disable Diag Mode:-

FAQs & Trouble Shooting
Q. I get “Unable to get counter or counter expired”
A. Please check the following
1. You have entered the username and password correctly
2. There is no blank space at the beginning or the end of the username or password.
3. You have no firewall blocking the application
4. You have not already used your credit
Q. How can I check if I have used my credit (and retrieve an unlock code if I closed the software.)
A. Please log into http://www.jicservers.com there you can see the credits on your accounts and details of
any phones unlocked. (You will need to update your email address, before you can view any details)

Correct Way to Install Diag Drivers.
This is a more comprehensive guide to installing the diag drivers at step 6 of the unlock guide on page 2
Step 1. Windows Detects New Hardware, select “No, not this time” when windows asks if to search for the
driver, click “Next”
Step 2. Select “Install from a list or specific location” click “Next”
Step 3. Select “Include this Location in the search”, click “Browse” then browse to C:\Program Files\Multi
unlock Client\Palm Pre\drivers if you have a pre or C:\Program Files\Multi unlock Client\Palm Pixi\drivers if
you have a pixi, click “OK”

Step 5. Windows Will now install the new drivers, click “Continue anyway” when windows warns about driver
signing.

Windows has installed the new hardware (this process will happen twice, once finished the two new devices
should show in device manager has comm ports (as per the picture shown)
